Intersil Introduces New High-Performance Analog Switches Targeted for Portable Battery-Powered Appliances

-- New Intersil switches reduce battery drain and save space in portable devices


IRVINE, CA, July 10, 2002 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced three new additions to its high-performance analog switch line – the ISL8323, ISL8324, and the ISL8325. These analog switches are ideally designed for portable battery-powered equipment in which space and power consumption are concerns. They are also well suited for communications systems, test equipment and audio/visual applications. Switches are supported with thorough characterization documentation to aid design-in and qualification.

All switches are dual single-pole single throw (SPST) configured. Contacts for the ISL8323 are normally open (NO) while the ISL8324 contacts are normally closed (NC). The ISL8325 features one NO switch and one NC switch that are guaranteed to break before the NO switch makes contact. Extremely low power consumption (<5 µW) extends battery life, low leakage currents (100 pA max) lengthen hold times in sample-and-hold-circuits, and fast switching speeds (tON = 150 ns max, tOFF = 100 ns max) reduce propagation delay in timing sensitive applications. The switches offer minimal charge injection (5 pC max) to maximize signal integrity, and they come in 8-lead SOIC surface-mount packages alleviating board space limitations. This combination of features makes Intersil’s newest switches an ideal solution for low-power space-constrained applications.

The ISL8323, ISL8324, and ISL8325 are pin compatible with the Maxim MAX323, MAX324, and MAX325 and the Pericom PS323, PS324, and PS325 devices. Customers reduce their risk of part shortages when industry demand strains supplier capacity by maintaining an alternate supplier in high-volume applications.
