Intersil Introduces New Family of Highly Integrated, Low-Power Real Time Clocks for Consumer and Industrial Applications

-- Real Time Clock Family Integrates 4kbits of EEPROM and CPU Supervisory Functions

MILPITAS, CA, April 25, 2006 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog solutions, today introduced a new family of real time clocks that integrate 4kbits of erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) (2.0 million write cycles) and CPU supervisory functions, in a small footprint package designed for space-constrained applications.

Intersil’s ISL12026/27/28/29 family features low power dissipation (800nA battery supply current) in battery back-up mode, enabling the use of small batteries or super caps for back-up, critical in handheld applications. The ISL12027, ISL12028 and ISL12029 also integrate CPU supervisory functions, providing board space savings by eliminating the need for discrete devices for power-on reset and watchdog timer.

Reliability, Low Power and Integration
The combination of low power, high integration and very small footprint makes these new RTCs ideal for consumer applications such as DVDR (DVD recordable) and HDTV devices, point-of-sale (POS) systems and other consumer electronics devices. Industrial applications include utility power meters, heating, air conditioning, ventilation and other industrial equipment. The devices can also be used in handheld applications such as PDAs, scanners, portable medical equipment and other handheld devices. Other applications include HVAC, power metering, security, fire monitoring and other security-related systems.

Intersil’s new family of real time clocks is available now. The ISL12026 and ISL12027 are housed in 8-pin small outline and TSSOP packages. Prices for the ISL12026 start at $1.40 for SO and $1.45 for the TSSOP package; prices for the ISL12027 are $1.65 in SO and $1.70 for TSSOP package. The ISL12028 and ISL12029 are available in 14-pin SO and TSSOP packages, and are priced at $1.80 for SO and $1.85 for the TSSOP package. All prices are for 1,000-unit quantities.
