PALM BAY, FL, January 18, 2000 Intersil Corporation today announced its new communication and computer trench technology MOSFETs. The product family features 20-Volt (V) and 30V N-Channel and P-Channel MOSFETs developed for notebook PC power management, cellular telephone power management and Lithium-Ion battery pack protection applications.
Intersils ITF861XX series and ITF870XX series comprise the companys initial trench MOSFET offering. The devices low on resistance minimizes load switch losses in battery-powered equipment including notebook PCs and cellular telephones. In space-constrained portable products and applications, small footprint packages such as the TSSOP8 and TSOP6 reduce the amount of required PC board area and contribute to high volume automated assembly. Low gate charge and fast recovery time result in low losses in switching regulators.
The ITF861XX devices are 30V, logic-level, trench MOSFETs comprised of single P-Channel, single N-Channel and dual N-Channel devices. The P-Channel devices perform high side load control switching in ACPI circuits and in notebook PC applications such a battery disconnect switching and battery charge switching. The N-Channel devices perform low side load control switching and can be deployed in switching regulator circuit applications such as the controller circuits in notebook PCs. Servers and RAID systems benefit from the familys 7.8 Rds(on), single N-Channel offering that serves as the 5V and 3.3V supply rail switch in Hotplug applications.
Intersils ITF870XX series is comprised of 20V, sub logic-level, trench MOSFETs comprised of single and dual P-Channel and single and dual N-Channel devices. The P-Channel devices perform as high side load control switches in cellular telephone applications with the ability to act as battery charge switch, power amplifier switch and reverse blocking switch in dual battery applications. The single N-Channel device performs as a low side control switch. In this case, the device can convert battery voltage to required output voltage in cellphones by being employed in switching regulator circuits such as a boost or buck converters. The dual N-Channel device serves as part of the battery protection circuitry in the Lithium-Ion battery pack for cellular telephones.
