Intersil Introduces Industry's First Triple Differential Twisted-Pair Driver with Common-Mode Sync Encoding

MILPITAS, CA, May 4, 2004 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog solutions, today announced a new triple differential twisted-pair driver with common-mode sync encoding. The latest addition to Intersils new high-speed operational amplifier portfolio, the Elantec® EL4543 contains embedded logic which encodes standard video horizontal and vertical sync signals onto the common mode of the twisted pair(s), transmitting this additional information without the requirement for additional buffers or transmission lines. The EL4543 is ideally suited to commercial and consumer applications that use CAT-5 cable for transmitting high quality video, and it enables significant system cost savings when compared with discrete line driver alternatives.
With 350MHz -3dB bandwidth, the EL4543 enables differential signaling onto standard twisted-pair or coax with very low harmonic distortion, while internal feedback ensures balanced gain and phase at the outputs reducing radiated EMI and harmonics.
The newest member of the Elantec op amp family is designed to provide significant cost savings for systems transmitting video signals over twisted pair cabling such as CAT-5, said Sameer Vuyyuru, Intersils director of marketing for Video and Op Amps. The EL4543 allows system designers to now transmit five signals (Red, Green, Blue (RGB), Hsync and Vsync) using only three twisted-pairs. The Hsync and Vsync information can be recovered on the backend with the Elantec EL9110 differential receiver and equalizer.

Parts are available now and prices are given for 1,000-unit volume. The EL4543 is available in a space-saving 24-pin QSOP package and priced at $2.17 each.
