Intersil Introduces High-Efficiency DC/DC Converter with Industry's Largest Integrated 3.5A FET for Display Market

MILPITAS, CA, August 22, 2005 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog solutions, today announced a high-efficiency four-channel DC/DC converter for use in large (19 inches and greater) TFT-LCD (thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display) applications such as televisions and desktop monitors. Intersil’s EL7585A features the industry’s largest integrated 3.5A FET (field-effect transistor), providing the highest possible output power in large display panels.

“Intersil’s EL7585A is extremely power-efficient, creating a cooler operating system than other solutions currently in the marketplace,” said Mike Jennings, marketing director of Intersil’s Display Power group. “By maximizing the level of integration, Intersil provides customers with very small footprint designs. We also go one step further by regulating the logic supply voltage to reduce display noise.”

High Power, Efficiency and Integration
The EL7585A features a PWM (pulse width modulation) boost converter with 3V to 5V input capability and up to 16V output. The integrated FET is the industry’s largest integrated FET available at 3.5A for higher output power in larger panels. A pair of LDO (low dropout) controllers provides regulation for the gate driver and supplies up to 36V for the positive supply and down to -20V for the negative supply. A third LDO controller is used to provide a regulated logic supply voltage. The EL7585A also includes integrated power supply sequencing and is fully fault- protected to protect the panel without external components.
