Intersil Flexes MightyMUX Muscle with Three New Analog Multiplexers that Boost Performance Over Industry Standards
-- 99% reduction in the leakage current and signal feed-through vs previous-generation products
MILPITAS, CA, November 17, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog solutions, today announced three new additions to their rapidly growing MightyMUX high-performance low-voltage analog switch and multiplexer line the ISL84051 8-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer, the ISL84052 4-channel differential multiplexer/demultiplexer and the ISL84053 triple 2-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer (triple bi-directional single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switches). Each of these new Intersil MightyMUX multiplexers provides an easy upgrade path from older-generation industry-standard families as required by todays more demanding audio, video and medical/industrial applications.
Operating from a single +2 V to +12 V (+15 V max) supply or +/-2 V to +/-6 V dual supply, the ISL84051, ISL84052 and ISL84053 provide industry-leading high-precision performance. Leakage current in the OFF state is a mere 2 pA at +25 degrees C and less than 5 nA at +85 degrees C. Each switch is designed to accommodate rail-to-rail analog signals for maximum dynamic range. R(ON) is less than 100 Ohms (60 Ohms typical) at +/-5 V and +25 degrees C for all devices. Channel matching is better than 6 Ohms, greatly minimizing signal variance from channel to channel. R(ON) flatness per channel is less than 15 Ohms across the industrial temperature range and full signal swing which significantly reduces signal distortion.
All digital selector inputs have 0.8 V to 2.4 V logic thresholds, ensuring TTL/CMOS logic compatibility when using a single +5 V or +/-5 V supply. Other precision specifications include fast switching speeds of t(on) = 90 ns and t(off) = 60 ns with a +5 V supply. Charge injection is typically 2 pC at 25C.
Performance Boost
- 99% reduction in OFF-state leakage current less than 5 nA over industrial temperature range (-40 to +85 degrees C)
- 99% reduction in OFF-state signal feed-through better than 90 dB at 100 kHz and 75 dB at 1 MHz
- Reliable switching with 3-V low-voltage TTL
- Guaranteed R(ON) flatness less than 15 Ohms across industrial temperature range
- Guaranteed across industrial temperature range, +/-10% supply variation and peak-to-peak input signal range
Use for:
- High-frequency analog switching
- High-speed multiplexing
- Audio and video routing
- Filter and function selection
- Op-amp gain/frequency switching networks
- Level shifting and calibration
- Industrial controls: flow and control, security, environmental control, sensors, supplies
- Instrumentation: ATE, oscilloscope, waveform generator, spectrum analyzer, diagnostics
- Communications: wireless and wired infrastructure, xDSL Modems

The ISL84051, ISL84052 and ISL84053 are available now. The suggested resale price for each IC in 100- to 999-unit quantities is $0.59 for the ISL84051IB, ISL84052IB and ISL84053IB in a 16-lead SOIC package and $0.64 for the ISL84051IA, ISL84052IA and ISL84053IA in a 16-lead NSSOP (aka QSOP) package. Both the SOIC and NSSOP packages are rated for a temperature range of 40 to +85 degrees C and are available on tape & reel. About Intersil
