Intersil Expands Programmable Gamma Generator Offerings to Enhance Picture Quality in Next-generation LCD Displays

MILPITAS, CA, June 2, 2004 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog solutions, today introduced two new products in its innovative programmable gamma voltage generator line, the EL5226 and EL5326. The EL5226 and EL5326 extends Intersils portfolio of programmable gamma voltage generators that already includes the 8-channel EL5126. Intersil is the first company to deliver new technologies that enable dynamic gamma correction control and user programmability to enhance picture quality in new- and next-generation TFT-LCD displays for monitors and TVs.
Intersils leading position in the LCD component market place enables us to introduce innovative products like our programmable gamma voltage generator line, said Michael Jennings, director of marketing for Intersils Display Products. These products are an enabling technology for dynamic gamma control applications, which are used to enhance the picture quality of LCD TVs. They also enable programmable gamma correction for ease of manufacturing and for high-end monitors where such values are user programmable.
The EL5226 and EL5326 feature 10 and 12 channels respectively. Each channel is programmable to a 10-bit resolution through the I2C interface, which can run up to 400 kHz. Each output features rail-to-rail (within 50 mV) capability for full gamma curve generation and can supply up to 30 mA continuously, or 120 mA peak.

Both the 10-channel EL5226 and the 12-channel EL5326 are available in the 28-pin TSSOP package.
