IRVINE, Calif., May 17, 2000 Intersil (NASDAQ:ISIL), a leading developer of silicon technology for integrated communications applications, today announced that it has been awarded an Indefinite Duration Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) headquartered at McClelland Air Force Base, California. The contract has an estimated value of over $9 million.
The IDIQ contract augments DMEAs capability to provide integrated circuits (ICs) to Department of Defense (DoD) users by maintaining procurement capabilities for devices critical to defense programs. Intersils design capabilities will be utilized to redesign devices deployed in applications that demand extended longevity and to maintain current processes required by the DoD.
"We are pleased to be involved in this program with the DMEA," said Don Cross, senior manager for Intersils Space & Defense Business. "The utilization of the DMEAs fabrication facilities is another channel through which Intersil will continue to provide integrated communication solutions for the DoD and commercial space marketplaces."
The DMEA, under the agreement, becomes a designated design center of Intersil, and is authorized to process Intersil base silicon wafers in their own fabrication facility. The contract ensures the DoD access to a wide variety of Intersils high-voltage and high-frequency processes designed for military and space communications applications. Intersil is free to integrate the design capabilities that are developed as a result of the IDIQ contract into commercial product offerings.
