Intersil Elects Three New Members to Company’s Board of Directors

IRVINE, Calif. — May 22, 2000 — Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), the world’s leading provider of silicon technology for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), today announced that it has elected three new members to the company’s board of directors. Joining Intersil’s board are Dr. Robert Conn, Dean of University of California, San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering; Jan Peeters, president, CEO and founder of Olameter, Inc.; and Robert N. Pokelwaldt, former chairman and CEO of York International.

"The addition of these three members to our board provides complementary leadership strengths for Intersil," said Greg Williams, Intersil’s president and CEO. Robert Conn, Jan Peeters and Robert Pokelwaldt join Intersil’s current board of directors comprised of Greg Williams, James Urry and Gary Gist.

Robert Conn
Robert Conn, Ph.D, is the dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, and the Walter J. Zable endowed chair in engineering. Under Dr. Conn's leadership, UCSD's Jacobs School of Engineering has established a wireless center and other programs focused on communications theory, devices and circuit design, especially including RF, software and semiconductors. He is an internationally recognized leader in the field of plasma physics, plasma processing of materials and fusion energy. Prior to joining UC, San Diego in 1994, he served as professor of engineering and applied sciences and founding director of the Institute of Plasma and Fusion Research at the University of California, Los Angeles. He joined UCLA in 1980 after holding the Romnes Faculty Professorial Chair at the University of Wisconsin, where he served on the faculty from 1970 to 1979. Dr. Conn has served as a member or as chair on many government and National Academy advisory committees. He founded Plasma & Materials Technologies (now Trikon Technologies), a manufacturer of semiconductor chip etching and deposition equipment, where he served as chairman and senior technologist from 1986 until 1993, and remained on the board of directors until the end of 1994. Dr. Conn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Pratt Institute as well as a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering and a Ph.D. in engineering science from the California Institute of Technology.

Jan Peeters
Jan Peeters is chairman, president and CEO of Olameter, Inc., which he founded in 1998. Olameter offers a full range of telemetry and gateway services to utilities (electricity, gas, water) and others; including meter reading, data collection, aggregation and dissemination services via a gateway product that can act as a physical network portal within a building through which other services may also be supplied. He was previously founder, vice-chairman, president and CEO of Fonorola, Inc., a leading Canadian facilities-based long distance and data services provider that was sold to Call-Net Enterprises, Inc. in 1998 for C$1.8 billion. Prior to the launch of Fonorola in 1990, Peeters formed Boyd, Peeters & Molson, a seed capital company, and spent 13 years with the SNC-Lavlin Group, one of Canada’s largest engineering/construction companies. Mr. Peeters holds a Bachelor of Mining Engineering degree from McGill University.

Robert Pokelwaldt
Robert Pokelwaldt retired as the chairman and CEO of YORK International Corporation in November 1999. He was chairman and CEO of YORK since January 1993 and was previously president and chief operating officer of the company since 1991. He joined York as President of Applied Systems Worldwide, a YORK Division, in 1988. Prior to joining YORK, Pokelwaldt was chairman and CEO of Frick Co., which was acquired by York in May 1987. He has also served as president and CEO of R.G. Sloan, a Susquehanna Company, and as division vice president for Spalding Fibre Company of Tonawanda, New York. Pokelwaldt earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and attended engineering and business graduate classes at the University of Buffalo.
