Intersil Selected by Europes Leading Computer Company as Preferred Power Management Supplier
-- Fujitsu Siemens Computers selects Intersil's Endura power management solutions~-- ICs provide efficient and reliable power control on both Intel- and AMD-based motherboards
IRVINE, CA, November 20, 2001 Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of power management solutions for PCs, file servers and portable information appliances, announced today that Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European computer company, has selected Intersil as the preferred supplier of power management ICs for all of their PC motherboards.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers is the leading European computer company and offers one of the world's most complete product and solution portfolios. Its world-leading technology and innovative Information Technology products span the entire range of personal computing and enterprise computing needs.
Fujitsu Siemens selection of Intersil as their preferred power management solution provider further strengthens our position as the worlds leader in microprocessor power control, said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersils Analog Business Unit. Fujitsu Siemens Computers is a leading provider of professional PCs, notebooks and workstations to business customers, and is Europe's leading supplier of PCs for home users and small offices.
Endura Multiphase Control
Intersils Endura multiphase pulse width modulation (PWM) control circuits offer unmatched precision and flexible scalability for applications requiring 2, 3 or up to 4 phases of power control 3 phases for todays Intel Pentium 4 and 4 phases for the next generation processors. This multiphase control technology, pioneered by Intersil, offers manufacturers cost savings in components because phase balancing causes load current to be evenly distributed among phases allowing the use of less costly MOSFETs and phase staggering greatly increases the ripple frequency making it easier to filter to a very low ripple voltage with smaller filter components.
The Intersil Endura motherboard power solution involves the combination of a multiphase controller from the HIP6300 series and one or more HIP6600 series MOSFET drivers. The multiphase controller family consists of five multiphase PWM controllers: the HIP6301, HIP6303, and HIP6311A are 2 to 4 phase controllers that regulate output currents as high as 100 A (ampere) or more, whereas the HIP6302 and HIP6304 are dedicated two-phase devices that control microprocessor loads up to approximately 50 A. The MOSFET driver series includes the HIP6601A and HIP6603A, which are single-phase synchronous buck MOSFET drivers, and the HIP6602A dual-phase driver designed to drive four n-channel MOSFETs.
Intersil Power Management Technology
The Intersil Endura product family consists of leading power management solutions for desktop and mobile PCs, workstations, Internet appliances, RAID systems and high-availability servers. The Endura family includes high-efficiency solutions that are used in portable PCs and mobile information appliances as well as home gateway products. Intersils leadership position has grown, capturing over 50 percent of the AMD Athlon and Intel® Pentium® 4 processors and providing power management solutions for next generation desktop, portable and wireless communications devices. The company is the first to introduce a complete cost effective power solution for new and next generation PCs that uses a multiphase power configuration to achieve unparalleled precision and efficiency.
