PALM BAY, FL, May 5, 2000 Intersil Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leader in power management solutions for desktop PCs, file servers and workstations, today introduced an addition to its family of dual metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) drivers. The device is a critical component of efficient and reliable power supplies in PCs, servers and integrated communications devices.
Combined with pulse width modulation (PWM) controllers, Intersils HIP6602 contributes to a complete core voltage regulator solution, protecting advanced microprocessors from over- and under-voltage situations.
"Intersil continues to develop technology that offers designers flexibility," said Steve Rivet, product marketing manager at Intersil. "The consolidation of two drivers in a single package considerably reduces required board space and is much more cost effective. This is a precursor of Intersil power management designs of the future, addressing the need for efficient power management to increasingly powerful processors."
The HIP6602 drives upper and lower gates over a range of 5 volts to 12 volts, which proves valuable when optimizing applications involving switching loss and conduction loss trade-offs. Additionally, the HIP6602 integrates two drivers into a single package, resulting in a space saving, compact device. The output drivers in the HIP6602 have the capacity to efficiently switch power MOSFETs at frequencies up to two megahertz. The device reduces implementation complexity and allows the use of higher-performance, cost-effective N-Channel MOSFETs.
The HIP6602 is a companion gate driver to Intersils HIP6300 series multiphase buck Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) controllers. The multiphase power topology is ideal for high-power dc/dc converters and results in smaller and lower-cost transistors and fewer input and output capacitors. By improving overall power supply efficiency, the devices work equally well in applications requiring single-phase PWM control. Intersils 30V N-channel UltraFETs complete the power train by offering an optimal combination of low conduction and switching losses.
Packaging, Pricing and Availability
The HIP6602 is available in a 14-lead SOIC package and is priced at $2.53 in 10,000 piece quantities. For more information on the HIP6602 including complete data sheets visit Intersils homepage at www.intersil.com, or call 1-888-INTERSIL ex. 7984.
