Intersil Delivers Power to High-Performance PCs and Information Appliances

— New multiphase controller chip regulates power delivered to microprocessors
— Enables high-speed business computing and information transfer

IRVINE, Calif., May 17, 2000 — Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leader in power solutions for desktop PCs, file servers and workstations, today introduced an addition to its family of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller integrated chips (ICs). The HIP6304 joins Intersil’s multiphase controller family that provides the precision power requirements of today’s advanced microprocessors, and enables high-speed business computing and Internet data transfer.

Multiphase converters distribute power and current load to microprocessors that are used in today’s PCs and high performance servers. The HIP6304 provides a compact power solution optimized for Intel’s latest version Pentium^® central processing unit (CPU). The device features a monitor circuit that regulates the voltage sent to the microprocessor. This function protects the microprocessor from excessive voltage, allowing it to operate at the efficiency levels necessary to enable integrated communications functions. When coupled with Intersil’s gate drivers, the HIP6304 multiphase controller provides the total core-voltage system for advanced microprocessors.

The device is targeted toward embedded and VRM 8.4 core DC/DC converters for high-performance PCs, workstations and server motherboards employing Intel’s next generation microprocessors. VRM 8.4 is a performance standard required by today’s advanced microprocessors.

The HIP6304 is available in a 16 pin SOIC package and is currently available in production quantities. The device is priced at $3.25 in 10,000 piece quantities.
