Intersil Delivers Efficient Power to Industrial and Communications Applications

— 100V UltraFET™ MOSFET increases power efficiency through increased switching speeds and low RDS(ON)

IRVINE, CA, August 18, 2000 — Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leader in power management solutions for desktop PCs, file servers and portable information appliances, today announced the latest addition to its UltraFET™ family of power semiconductors. The latest offering of metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) is designed for use in a variety of 100-volt (V) applications in industrial and communications applications, improving power efficiency and enabling high-speed computing and Internet data transfer.


IRVINE, CA, August 18, 2000 — Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leader in power management solutions for desktop PCs, file servers and portable information appliances, today announced the latest addition to its UltraFET™ family of power semiconductors. The latest offering of metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) is designed for use in a variety of 100-volt (V) applications in industrial and communications applications, improving power efficiency and enabling high-speed computing and Internet data transfer.

The device is designed to be the main power switch in any power conversion or power management topology requiring breakdown voltage of up to 100V. Typically, these topologies include single and dual switch forward converters for 24V and 48V systems respectively as well as half and full bridge configurations.

"Intersil’s 100V UltraFET MOSFETs are designed for power conversion applications such as DC/DC converters, Uninterruptible power supplies, and DC/DC power supplies" said David Grey, product marketing manager at Intersil. "High switching frequencies require MOSFETs to perform efficiently during conduction and switching phases. Intersil has designed UltraFET devices to deliver the short duty cycles required to deal with a wide range of input voltages and load currents."

Intersil’s 100V UltraFET MOSFET, the HUF75639, is specifically designed with a low RDS(ON) rating, losing very little power to the creation of heat. RDS(ON) is a measure of a MOSFET’s opposition to current flow when it is turned on. The new device also features improved switching speed, allowing engineers to deploy the device and improve overall power efficiency. It also delivers exceptional thermal resistance, allowing the device to operate at a lower temperature, when compared to similarly rated MOSFETs, for any given power dissipation. The optimized HUF75639 can meet these requirements due to an excellent combination of Rds(on)(25mR max @ 25C) and Qg(tot) (57nC typ @ Vgs=10V) as well as an exceptional thermal resistance figure of 0.75C/W. The HUF75639 is available in a number of package options, including surface mount, and in the larger TO247 is a high performance alternative to the STW60N10 and IRFP3710. Intersil is one of a few suppliers of Power MOSFETs offering 100V, 25mOhm and better devices in the TO247 package.

The 100V device joins the growing family of power efficient UltraFET MOSFETs offered by Intersil. Currently, the entire UltraFET family includes 20V, 30V, 55V, 60V, 80V, 100V and 150V devices.
