PALM BAY, FL, April 6, 2000 Intersil Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leader in power solutions for desktop PCs, file servers and workstations, today introduced its latest Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller integrated chip (IC). The HIP6311 joins Intersils multiphase controller family in addressing the precision power requirements of todays advanced microprocessors, enabling high-speed business computing and Internet data transfer.
The HIP6311 multiphase controller, when coupled with Intersils gate drivers, provides the total core-voltage system for advanced microprocessors. The device delivers the industrys best static tolerance and digital to analog conversion (DAC) accuracy, providing and ensuring consistent and precise microprocessor performance. Tighter static regulation affords designers the option of less output capacitance in meeting the total regulation tolerance budget. Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) designers complying with VRM 9.0 standards and designers of low voltage or switching DC/DC converters for PCs now have a highly efficient design option.
"With this device, Intersil addresses the most basic element of todays integrated communication technologies, the microprocessor," said Steve Rivet, product marketing manager at Intersil. "This latest addition to the multiphase controller family delivers high-performance core power solutions by implementing patented control technology in a flexible, modular chipset. The device is the first in the industry to meet the static reference tolerance requirements0.8 percentof VRM 9.0, the power specification for Intels next generation processors.
The device is targeted toward embedded and VRM 9.0 core DC/DC converters for high-performance PCs, workstations and server motherboards employing Intels next generation microprocessors.
Packaging, Pricing and Availability
The HIP6311 is available in a 20 pin SOIC package and is currently available in production quantities. The device is priced at $4.95 in 10,000 piece quantities. Evaluation boards optimized for Athlon and Willamette applications are now available to qualified OEMs. For more information about the HIP6311 or other Intersil multiphase devices, visit Intersils Web page at www.Intersil.com, or call
