Intersil Debuts New Low Power Family of SLICs for Universal Telecom Applications
Flexible design delivers full complement of performance options
PALM BAY, FL, May 1, 2000 Intersil Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading supplier of specialized circuits for integrated communications applications, today announced its latest family of Subscriber Line Interface Circuits (SLICs). At 50 milliwatts active power consumption, the UniSLIC14 delivers the lowest power solutions with the most requested features for Central Office, Pairgain and loop carrier universal voice grade designs. The UniSLIC14 delivers programming flexibility of virtually all key features, enabling designers to meet a variety of application and market requirements in the same pin-out.
A common package footprint allows designers to implement a universal design platform across multiple switching systems, reducing cost and design time. The UniSLIC14 Familys extensive test capabilities enable increased system "up-time" and lower maintenance costs on Remote Terminal (RT) equipment. The family of products can be used in industrial and commercial deployments.
"These new integrated circuits (ICs) are the result of Intersils continuing market-driven development of telecommunications devices for todays Integrated Communications systems," said Chris Ludeman, product marketing manager at Intersil. "Intersil offers the flexibility of 10 devices with unique performance characteristics in two packaging options, enabling a single board to be the platform for multiple performance features that can be used worldwide. Intersil is confident that this type of flexibility will continue driving technological developments in the industry."
Low power operation is achieved through dual battery operation with automatic switching and battery tracking saturation guard to ensure the maximum loop coverage on the lowest battery voltage. The UniSLIC14 family integrates advanced pulse metering, test and signaling capabilities, and zero crossing ring control. The SLICs are ideal for power critical applications such as ISDN NT1+, Pairgain and wireless local loop products.
Price, Packaging and Availability
The 10 ICs comprising the UniSLIC14 family are now available in production quantities in SOIC and PLCC packaging. An evaluation board, HC5514XEVAL1, is also available. Pricing ranges from $3.31 in quantities of 10,000 for the HC55120CM, to $5.07 in quantities of 10,000 for the full featured HC55143IM.
