PALM BAY, FL, October 25, 1999 Intersil Corporation announced today that it will partner with RTG, Inc., to design and develop custom integrated circuits. The agreement between Intersil and Torrance, California-based RTG gives customers access to RTGs integrated circuit design and debug resources and Intersils proven radiation hardened, high reliability process capabilities.
"RTG is well-respected for their analog and mixed signal custom IC design," says Ray Odom, vice president and general manager of Intersils Space & Defense Products. "Their expertise in high speed communication, power and military IC design has been used by Intersil for nearly a decade. We have created a winning combination for our customers by combining Intersils expertise in custom circuit production with RTGs expertise in RF, analog and mixed signal circuit design. Our customers can utilize RTG for the front-end design and low-volume efforts, then select the best production path using our proven processes for the most cost-effective solution."
This partnership enables customers to design and prototype custom ICs by purchasing PCM (process control monitored) wafers directly from Intersil or through RTG. RTG is responsible for the back-end processes of wafer probing, dicing, assembling, and testing of prototype devices. This design and prototype flow enables customers to cost effectively workout testing and specification issues using real silicon. Initial device characterization data is used to finalize the specifications before moving into a production environment. After the design and prototype efforts, customers select the appropriate production model: low-volume customized production, high volume production, or a QML Class V, Q or T production flow from Intersil.
"Intersil has one of the largest process selections for the hi-rel customer," says Kurt Rasmussen, President of RTG. "This partnership allows RTG to offer its customers processes previously reserved for Intersils standard products. When combined with our solid IP (intellectual property) base, customers can get the best circuit technology with the proper process choice to match their needs." Mr. Rasmussen continued by saying, "The RTG-Intersil team leverages the strengths of the two companies to give the customer a cost-effective, proven way to get to production."
The Intersil/RTG partnership gives customers access to a wide variety of processes for your rad hard and high-rel needs, from sub-micron linear CMOS for high performance mixed signal applications to high speed CMOS and Bipolar for high frequency video, imaging, instrumentation and communications applications. High voltage BiCMOS offer analog signal processing and power and control.
