IRVINE, Calif., March 29, 2000 Underscoring Irvine Spectrums continued appeal as a top destination for technology and broadband companies, newly-public Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ:ISIL) has signed a five-year lease for 17,306 square feet within the rapidly-growing masterplanned business center.
Palm Bay, Fla.-based Intersil a leading systems-oriented manufacturer of circuits and semiconductors for the integrated communications market will establish its West Coast corporate office and design center within Irvine Spectrum in May, 2000. Intersils new space, which comprises the entire first floor of 7585 Irvine Center Drive, will serve as a high speed wireless design and applications center, employing 30 to 40 people. The firms operational headquarters will remain in Florida.
According to Greg Williams, president and CEO of Intersil Corporation, the move to Irvine Spectrum creates a solid foundation for the company in the burgeoning West Coast technology market.
"The Los Angeles to San Diego corridor has become increasingly focused on technologies for wireless and high speed communications," said Williams. "As the hub of the region, Irvine Spectrum has become a recognized center for wireless and broadband communications, attracting a critical mass of companies involved in these emerging technologies. Thats truly a major advantage."
Williams added that with many of Intersils integrated communications customers located on the West Coast, the Irvine Spectrum location will make it easier for the firm to stay in close touch with clients and provide enhanced customer service, while enabling it to recruit top local talent.
"Setting up shop in Irvine Spectrum provides better access not only to our customers, but to some of the best designers and engineers in the world," said Williams.
Don McNutt, senior vice president of operations for The Irvine Company, welcomes the relationship with Intersil as the start of something bigger.
"Just like Broadcom, Meade Instruments and Quest Software, we expect Intersil to become the kind of successful, innovative company that is continuing to make the Irvine Spectrum the fastest-growing technology center in the world today," said McNutt.
Chip Wright of CB Richard Ellis represented Intersil in the lease transaction.
Irvine Spectrum is a 5,000-acre international center for business, research and technology known by many as the "Hub of the Technology Coast." With core industries of computers, software, biotech, automotives and medical devices, Irvine Spectrum is home to 2,750 companies which employ 55,000 people in the research park. Irvine Spectrum, a masterplanned business and research center, is under the direction of The Irvine Companys Irvine Investment Properties Group.
