PALM BAY, FL, October 18, 1999 Intersil Corporation announced today the availability of a new 14-bit A/D converter tailored for use in military electronic systems. The HI5905N, the first Intersil product under the Defense Supply Center in Columbus (DSCC) Class N Initiative, offers military customers superior high speed A/D performance with the cost benefit of plastic packaging.
The HI5905N is designed for high-speed, high-resolution applications where wide bandwidth, low power consumption and excellent SINAD performance are essential. The 5 MSPS HI5905N converts analog signals from sensors, antennas and linear circuits to digital data, and its full power input bandwidth and high frequency accuracy are ideal for military communications applications using digital intermediate frequency (IF) architectures.
The DSCC Class N initiative provides Intersils HI5905N with configuration controlled screening and specifications guaranteed over extended temperatures for military applications. The Class N Qualified Manufacturers Listing (QML) eliminates the need for Specification Control Drawing (SCD).
Fabricated using Intersils advanced BiCMOS process, the HI5905N is designed in a fully differential pipelined architecture with front-end differential-in and differential-out sample-and-hold amplifier (S/H). It can achieve the resolution and speed existing in hybrid designs at a fraction of the cost while consuming only 400mW (maximum). It offers excellent dynamic performance and is guaranteed over the full military -55ºC to + 125ºC temperature range. The HI5905N is the first product in the market to offer full power input bandwidth at 100mHz, a 5MSPS sampling rate and low noise floor (74.6dB typical at 1 MHz).
Price and Availability
Packaged in a 44-lead MQFP, the HI5905N is available at a unit cost of $230.32 (100 piece quantities). To reduce time to market, evaluation boards are also available.
