Intersil Continues as Primary Power Solutions Provider to FIC for All PC Platforms
-- Intersil provides
IRVINE, CA, October 22, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog solutions, today announced that Intersils Endura highly efficient and reliable power solutions continue to be selected by First International Computer, Inc. (FIC), one of the worlds largest motherboard and PC manufacturers, to power virtually all systems on FICs newest computing platforms. Intersils new ISL6563 universal multiphase PWM controller is the industrys only two-phase synchronous-buck PWM controller with integrated 2-A MOSFET drivers and all-in-one VID that is designed to power CPUs across most Intel and AMD processor-based platforms.
Intersil is the exclusive provider of high-performance power solutions for all FIC PC systems including CPUs, processor/graphics chip sets, DDR memory and I/O across both Intel® and AMD based systems, including the new VRD10 and Athlon 64 platforms.
We are pleased that our Endura power solutions continue to be selected by FIC for their innovative and award-winning platforms, said Rick Furtney, Vice President and General Manager of Intersils High Performance Analog Product Group. FIC is a world leader in supplying computing technologies and have much at stake when it comes to selecting reliable power solutions for their platforms. We value their confidence and continue to deliver advanced solutions like the ISL6563. Many of our customers, including FIC, consider the ISL6563 to be a sort of silver bullet for reducing costs, inventory and time to market.
Once again we have selected Intersils power solutions for our newest computing platforms because Intersil Endura multiphase controllers provide the highest performance at the lowest possible bill-of-materials cost, while ensuring the quickest time-to-market of new models, said Julio Chen, procurement VP of FIC's Advanced Platform Group. Intersils new ISL6563 universal PWM controller/driver is a prime example of excellence and innovation that enables parts reduction, cost savings and rapid new-product deployment. We look forward to a long and continuing relationship.
The newest Intersil Endura multiphase PWM controller IC adopted by FIC for their computing platforms is the ISL6563. The recently announced ISL6563 addresses 90% of Intel and AMD processor-based motherboards that require CPU multiphase power conversion because of its all-in-one VID input and on-chip high-current MOSFET drivers. The all-in-one VID feature enables hardware designers to interface the ISL6563 with Intels existing Celeron®, Pentium® 4 and next-generation processors based on the VRM10 specification. This same PWM controller can be used for the AMD Athlon, Athlon XP, Opteron, and Athlon 64 CPUs, enabling designers to reduce their power IC parts list to a single device for all Intel and AMD computer systems. The ISL6563 results in significant bill-of-materials (BOM) cost savings compared to any other solution in the market today.
Other Intersil power controllers designed in by FIC for their Intel-based platforms include the ISL6556A, ISL6556B, and ISL6561, 2- to 4-phase VRM10 PWM controllers. For AMD-based platforms, FIC has used Intersils two-phase ISL6569 and four-phase ISL6559 PWM controllers. These robust controllers work with any of Intersils MOSFET drivers such as the single-channel HIP6601B, HIP6603B and HIP6604B and dual-channel HIP6602B. Many other Intersil products are used on each platform to power chip sets, graphics, memory and I/O.
