Intersil Collaborates with Microsoft to Support Windows Powered Smart Displays
MILPITAS, CA, January 8, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced a new PRISM® 802.11b WLAN driver solution that supports Smart Displays based on the Windows CE for Smart Displays operating system. Smart Displays extend the power of the Windows XP operating system by providing wireless access to information, applications and services from any room in a home.
Windows CE for Smart Displays is new software technology that will power a wide range of Smart Displays from a variety of manufacturers. Any of these Smart Displays will connect to a PC running Windows XP Professional through an 802.11 wireless connection from up to 150 feet away. Once connected, information plus applications and services on the PC can be accessed. For a user-friendly experience, Smart Displays feature a stylus and touch-sensitive screen, a complete customizable on-screen keyboard, writing pad with handwriting recognition and other options.
Microsoft is enabling the easy, wireless extension of communications, entertainment and productivity capabilities of Windows XP from the desktop to any room in the home, said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager for Intersils Wireless Products Group.
