Intersil Announces Radiation Hardened Complementary Switch Driver

— Complementary outputs controlled by a single input

IRVINE, Calif., September 19, 2000 — Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of power management solutions for today’s integrated communications applications, today announced a radiation hardened (Rad Hard) complementary switch field effect transistor (FET) driver specifically designed for use in military and commercial satellite applications.

IRVINE, Calif., September 19, 2000 — Intersil (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of power management solutions for today’s integrated communications applications, today announced a radiation hardened (Rad Hard) complementary switch field effect transistor (FET) driver specifically designed for use in military and commercial satellite applications.

The new device provides complementary 3 amp (A) peak outputs for driving N channel FETs controlled by a single input. Designed for use in synchronous rectifier circuits, the device generates true and complementary outputs, which are both active-low when the device is disabled. Soft switching transitions for the two outputs may be managed by setting the independently programmable delays. The delay pins can alternatively be configured for zero-voltage switching to allow for precise switching control under changing load conditions.

"Intersil’s new Rad Hard complementary switch driver offers designers a readily available, radiation tested and guaranteed option for use in satellite applications," said Tom Marshall, product marketing manager at Intersil. "The device is one of a family of FET drivers offered by Intersil. Incorporating Intersil’s FET drivers, including the IS-1715ARH, into designs eliminates the need for up-screening and radiation testing, resulting in lower costs and cycle times and delivering an attractive alternative to less reliable non-Rad Hard discrete solutions."

Innovative design techniques are used to achieve extremely stable performance over temperature and post-irradiation. Dielectric isolation processing and vertical device architecture provide latch-up immunity and a greatly reduced sensitivity to enhanced low dose rate effects, ensuring high reliability in harsh radiation environments. All of the complementary switch FET driver’s parameters are tested and guaranteed to 300krad(Si) over the full military temperature range.
