Intersil Announces New Triple-Channel Multiplexer for Video Switching
-- ISL59448 Features Integrated Gain-of-2 Buffer, High Slew Rate and Excellent Bandwidth
MILPITAS, CA, May 17, 2006 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog solutions, today introduced the ISL59448, a triple- channel 2:1 multiplexer with an integrated gain-of-2 buffer that delivers 1600V/us slew rate and 500MHz bandwidth. The ISL59448 is designed to meet the high resolution requirements of monitors, projectors and KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) peripherals. It extends Intersils industry-leading family of high-performance video multiplexers, which includes the ISL59445 with its 1 GHz bandwidth capability.
The ISL59448 triple 2:1 multiplexer allows designers to switch between two different input signals, each comprised of three channels, such as RGB (red, green, blue) or YPbPr (the color space used in video electronics). The integrated buffer with a fixed gain of 2 is ideal for driving double terminated video loads. The chip also features a three-state output (HIZ), so users can connect the outputs of multiple devices together to form large matrices. Also, a power-down mode that reduces power to just 14mW is incorporated in the ISL59448, so unneeded circuitry can be turned off in power-sensitive applications.
The ISL59448 has been designed with the industrys highest bandwidth and a slew rate that enables exceptional bandwidth even at the high levels typically associated with video signals, said Kathryn Tucker, marketing manager for Intersils Video products group. The device easily drives video loads, and is ideal for driving double or back-terminated loads.

From high-performance video amplifiers to differential line equalizers, Intersil's portfolio of video products can address any portion of the analog signal chain. The number and variety of video products on the market continues to grow. With the expansion of HDTV and high-resolution RGB (red, green, blue) signals, the most common point-to-point connection for a video signal is analog. Intersils video ICs provide many solutions for moving these signals around. Whether it is transmitting RGB down CAT-5 or switching 32 security video feeds, Intersil has a solution. Also, Intersils ISL5944x family extends the available bandwidth of RGB multiplexers on the market from 500MHz up to 1GHz the first time this barrier has been broken. Intersil continues to deliver best-in-class video solutions for its customers, addressing every piece of the signal chain.
