Intersil Announces Fisheye Lens Image Correction Technology
New Platform Improves Panoramic Viewing of Fisheye Camera Applications with No Blind Spots
Milpitas, CA – May 16, 2011 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ Global Select: ISIL) today announced a new fisheye image correction technology, developed by the Intersil Techwell product group. This proprietary technology provides real-time correction of distorted video images generated by a fisheye lens' ultra-wide field of view, and delivers corrected images in a normalized rectangular output.
This new technology integrates a high definition Image Signal Processor (ISP), delivering a single HD resolution video output and up to four standard definition video outputs. The technology is compatible with all types of fisheye lenses and enables a single fisheye camera to replace four existing cameras. In automotive applications, the technology enables a wide angle, panoramic camera to provide a viewing angle up to 180 degrees.
For the security surveillance market, the Intersil technology incorporates a motion detection engine along with digital pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) functionality. This functionality allows users to pan, tilt and zoom while removing blind spots and eliminating reliability challenges associated with conventional mechanical PTZ camera systems. The technology offers a wide variety of viewing options – including panorama and four window display modes – providing maximum versatility in how the corrected images are displayed.
Unlike software-based solutions requiring a PC, this Intersil technology has been designed specifically to be integrated into IP and analog camera solutions. Intersil is currently sampling this technology to select customers, and plans to introduce an IC based upon these capabilities in the near future.
