Intersil and Primarion Form Digital Power Management Alliance
IRVINE, Calif., October 15, 2001 - Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL) announced today that it has completed a strategic investment with advanced power and communications IC company Primarion and will form an alliance to co-develop digital power management solutions for high-end desktop PCs, servers and notebook PCs. Intersil and Tempe, Ariz.-based Primarion will co-develop digital power control and high-speed power switching solutions that fulfill the demanding requirements of advanced Intel® and AMD microprocessors.
In forming this alliance, Intersil will make an equity investment in Primarion, license key aspects of Primarion's new power architecture, and co-develop digital controller and Megahertz (MHz) power regulation ICs for server, desktop and mobile applications. Primarion and Intersil plan to enable a new power architecture for computing systems that includes four key elements - Gigahertz (GHz) regulation technology (from Primarion), MHz and digital control technologies (co-developed by Intersil and Primarion) and a new communications bus - all enabling a performance power architecture for computers for the first time. The companies are working with industry leaders to ensure optimal design for tomorrow's multi-GHz Internet computing environments.
