Intersil and Funk Software Work Together to Enable the PRISM WPA Security Solution that Works with All Mainstream Microsoft Operating Systems

MILPITAS, CA, April 21, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced expansion of its PRISM® Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) security software solution to support all mainstream Microsoft® Operating systems, including: Windows® 98, 2000, ME and XP. Intersils industry leading security solution works with Funk Softwares Odyssey® Client WLAN access control and security system to provide interoperability and promote ease of use with virtually all major Windows operating systems.

The seamless integration of Funk Softwares Odyssey software solution with Intersils Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) software ensures that our customers get the best possible security system for their WLAN products.
Funk Softwares Odyssey is an end-to-end 802.1X security solution for WLANs that can be easily and safely deployed enterprise-wide. Odyssey provides the most secure user authentication and data protection over a wireless connection, utilizing fully standards compliant protocols to provide the strongest possible authentication security.

Intersil provided the WLAN industrys first complete WPA security software upgrade for 802.11b PRISM-based client and access point products in January 2003. In March, Intersil extended the new security solution to include all PRISM GT (802.11g) and PRISM Duette (802.11a, b & g) client and access point products. Integration of Funk Softwares Odyssey Client extends Intersils expansive security solution beyond Windows XP, by providing the same level of security across virtually all Microsoft Operating Systems, and soon to include Pocket PC 2002.
WPA is a new industry standard security solution that provides a significant leap forward from the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) security built into 802.11 products today. WPA uses the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) to provide vastly improved over-the-air encryption of wireless data. The 802.1X is utilized by WPA to provide a framework for robust user authentication and dynamic generation and distribution of encryption keys to connected devices on the network. In the enterprise, WPA is used with an authentication server to provide a centralized, manageable and fully scaleable security solution suitable for hundreds or even thousands of users. In home or small office networks WPA can be used in a pre-shared key mode to provide the same security benefits without the need for an authentication server.
