Industrys Groundbreaking Light-to-Digital Sensor Combines Unmatched Performance, Ease-of-Use and Power Efficiency
Intersil’s Tiny ISL29020 Features Best-In-Class Low-Light Sensitivity, Wide Dynamic Range, Low Power Consumption and Ideal Spectral Response
MILPITAS, CA, November 6, 2008 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ Global Select: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance analog semiconductors, today announced one of the industrys best performing and easiest-to-use light-to-digital sensor, the ISL29020.
The ISL29020 delivers unmatched performance by combining low-light sensitivity (<0.015 lux), wide dynamic range, best-in-class spectral response as well as best-in-class IR and UV rejection. The ISL29020 is also leads the industry in power efficiency among light-to-digital sensors, using <65 microamps max operating current.
The ISL29020s I2C output and interface provides both ease-of-use and enhanced functionality. The digital output is a very simple code directly proportional to lux and requires no complex algorithms.
The ISL29020 also has four selectable ranges of light sensitivity, with sensitivity as low as 0.015 lux to as high as 64,000 lux enabling accurate light sensing in low-light conditions as well as direct sunlight. The ISL29020s low-light sensitivity, combined with the devices tiny, translucent six-lead ODFN package, allows the sensor to be embedded in applications behind screens of tinted glass and some fabrics and still perform effectively.
In addition to being the industrys most power efficient light-to-digital sensor, the ISL29020 also features a 0.5 microamps shutdown current and features software and automatic shutdown.
The ISL29020 is an ideal ambient light sensing solution for smart phones, GPS devices, LCD TVs, portable computing devices and automotive infotainment and display applications.

About Intersils Ambient Light Sensors
Intersils portfolio of light-to-analog and light-to-digital sensors provides
the ideal method for monitoring ambient light for brightness control in
computing and handheld devices. Intersils integrated IC light sensors have
superior sensitivity and power consumption when compared to traditional
stand-alone photodiodes, photoresistors and phototransistors. These devices can
be used for power-saving control or in any application that requires backlight
control, including mobile phones, PDAs, notebook computers, monitors, flat panel
TV displays, keyboard backlighting, automotive cluster gauges, automotive panel
displays, web pads and both video and still cameras. All of Intersils light
sensors are compensated for drift over time and temperature and in addition to
brightness control can be used for motion-sensing, intrusion-detection and
various other industrial and medical sensing applications such as oximeters and
blood glucose systems. To learn more, visit Intersils Display ICs page at
