MELBOURNE, FL, February 1, 1999 Harris Semiconductor today announced a new high-speed digital-to-analog (D/A) converter that couples low cost with dynamic spurious-free operation. The HI5660IB is pin-for-pin compatible with more expensive converters now on the market and offers superior performance features.
The new device is ideally suited for wireless communications, direct digital frequency synthesis (DDS), ultrasound systems, waveform generator and test instrumentation and other high performance D/A applications. It converts an eight-bit parallel digital data word into an analog current is less than eight nanoseconds and delivers pure spectral performance for accurate signal synthesis. Its ultra-low power consumption 165 mW with 5V supply and 27 mW at 3V helps designers improve system reliability.
The device also boasts single +3V or +5V supply operation for easy supply interface requirements. Adjustable analog output current can be set for maximum output currents ranging from 2 to 20mA. The output full scale current can be set by an external resistor. The HI5660 family is available in single and dual channel versions in 8- and 10-bit resolution at165, 125 and 60 MSPS.
Other key performance features include:
- Ultra-high throughput rate (125MHz)
- Internal voltage reference
- Industrial temperature range (-40º C to 85 Cº)
- Differential current outputs
Price and Availability
The HI5660IB is now available in SOIC and TSSOP packages for $XX in 10K quantities. To shorten design cycles and reduce time-to-market, Harris offers an evaluation board, the AN9821. A comprehensive list of application notes is availabe on Harris homepage at http://www.semi.harris.com/families/video.htm.
