Harris PRISM Chips On Board No Wires Needed 11 Mbps Wireless LAN Product Suite
NWN products will be demonstrated at Networld + Interop show next week
MELBOURNE, Fla, May 7, 1999 – No Wires Needed, BV of the Netherlands will demonstrate a fast wireless local area networking (WLAN) product suite at next week’s Networld + Interop trade show in Las Vegas. NWN’s product suite includes WLAN adapter cards for PCs (both PCMCIA and ISA formats), a wireless hub, access point and building-to-building bridges. The product suite employs Harris’ PRISM® WLAN Chip Set and achieves high rate, 11 megabits per second data rates in the 2.4 GHz ISM band.

No Wires Needed has been very aggressive in pushing the data rate envelope and developing a suite of products to cover the needs of most enterprise and small office/home office customers, said Ron Van Dell, vice president and general manager of Harris Semiconductors Communications Products Business. They have also been very active in interoperability studies, such as that done with the University of New Hampshire. Were very proud to have our PRISM chip set on board their products.

The 11 Mbps Wireless LAN Product Suite is the worlds first complete set of high-speed wireless products, and complies to the worldwide IEEE 802.11 standard. The Product Suite comprises a complete on-site mobility solution, supporting high speed data communications, voice-over-IP and multimedia. Included in the suite: the Swallow 1100 PCMCIA card,for laptops and PDAs; the Falcon 1100 ISA card for desktop PCs; the Pelican 1100 Wireless Hub to serve printers, workstations and other Ethernet-capable devices, such as Apple Macs; the Parrot 1100 Access Point, a wireless-to-backbone bridge that creates a picocellular infrastructure to cover an organizations entire campus; and the WBS-1100 and WBC-1100 outdoor bridges for LAN-to-LAN or building-to-building bridging. All products operate as a wireless extension of an Ethernet Local Area Network.
Products are displayed at Booth #5811 the site of extensive interoperability demonstrations sponsored by vendors participating in the Wireless LAN Interoperability Lab of the University of New Hampshire.
