MELBOURNE, FL, April 19, 1999 Harris Semiconductor today unveiled a new 8x8 video crosspoint switch with design features that improve performance while reducing cost and component count. The HA457 contains a digitally controlled matrix of 64 fully-buffered switches that connect eight video input signals to any, or all, matrix outputs.
The new device is a complementary addition to Harris video crosspoint switch portfolio optimized for professional quality video switching and router applications. Switcher and router systems direct a variety of video inputs including cameras, video tape recorders and video effects generators to a matrix of destinations (local monitors, broadcast transmission, VTRs).
A key feature of the device is its on-board, gain of two amplifier. This reduces system cost and saves board space by eliminating the external quad op amp ICs that typically follow a unity gain crosspoint switch matrix on competing designs. Additionally, the gain of two feature suits applications that drive double-terminated, 75 ohm video cables.
The HA457 also features a three-state output that allows the user to parallel multiple devices to form much larger switch matrices, and can switch both standard and high resolution video signals.
The HA457 delivers higher bandwidth and lower crosstalk performance specifications for consumer video applications. Other key features include:
- Input/output channel routing
- Utilizes either Serial or Parallel digital interface
- Low power dissipation of 680mW
- Fully buffered inputs and outputs (Av=+2)
- Expandable to accommodate larger switch matrices
Harris Analog Video Portfolio
The HA457 expands Harris' 8x8 Video crosspoint family, which includes the HA456, Av = 1 crosspoint switch, and is the latest example of Harris commitment to leading-edge signal processing technology as applied to analog video applications. Harris offers the complete analog video router and switcher chip set, which consists of the HFA1XXX series op amps, the HFA11XX series buffer/cable drivers, and the HA4XXX series crosspoint switches.
Price and Availability
The HA457 is available in both 44-lead MQFP and PLCC packages for $19.95 in quantities of 100s.
