Harris Develops New, Highly Integrated RF/IF Converter That Includes LNA, Synthesizer
SAN JOSE, CA, Wireless Symposium ‘99, February 23, 1999 – Harris Semiconductor has developed a highly integrated RF/IF converter with low noise amplifier (LNA) and synthesizer using advanced silicon germanium (SiGe) technology. The HFA3683 RF/IF Converter and Synthesizer delivers a high performance front-end for Harris’ next-generation chip set for wireless networking, the PRISM II WLAN chip set.
SAN JOSE, CA, Wireless Symposium 99, February 23, 1999 Harris Semiconductor has developed a highly integrated RF/IF converter with low noise amplifier (LNA) and synthesizer using advanced silicon germanium (SiGe) technology. The HFA3683 RF/IF Converter and Synthesizer delivers a high performance front-end for Harris next-generation chip set for wireless networking, the PRISM II WLAN chip set.
SiGe-based chips deliver a cutting-edge complement to Harris CMOS and BiCMOS technology due to their ability to provide greater design performance and flexibility. The SiGe process employs deep trench isolation, a noise-reduction methodology enabling designers to increase integration levels by placing functional blocks closer together on a single silicon die.
The HFA3683 is a monolithic, half-duplex RF/IF transceiver designed to operate in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz Industrial Scientific and Medical (ISM) band. It features a low noise, gain-selectable receive amplifier (LNA) followed by a down-converter mixer in the receive chain. An up-converter mixer and a high performance pre-amplifier form the transmit chain. The receive and transmit IF paths can share a common differential matching network so that only a single IF filter is required for half duplex transceivers. The high frequency PLL synthesizer has a three-wire programmable interface for local oscillator applications.
The HFA3683 is well-suited for a variety of wireless applications including wireless local area networks (WLANs), PCMCIA wireless transceivers, ISM systems and TDMA packet protocol radios.
Packaging, Availability and Pricing
The HFA3683 is housed in a 64-lead TQFP package well-suited for PCMCIA board applications. The HFA3683 is available now for sampling and is priced at $8.66 in 10K quantities.
