Fujitsu Siemens Computers Selects Intersil's PRISM GT Chip Set for it's CONNECT2AIR 802.11g Wireless LAN Products
-- Fujitsu Siemens Computers' new 802.11g router uses Intersil’s innovation WiSOC AP design and PRISM Nitro™ technology that increases performance in mixed 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networks
MILPITAS, CA, April 29, 2003 Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced that Fujitsu Siemens Computers the leading European computer company, has selected Intersils PRISM GT Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) chip set to provide connectivity for its new 802.11g CONNECT2AIR wireless router and PC card.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers chose Intersils innovative ISL3893 Wireless System-on-a-Chip (WiSOC) to design the new CONNECT2AIR wireless router. The ISL3893 is the worlds most highly integrated AP chip solution that provides both WLAN and Ethernet functionality for PRISM GT-based (802.11g draft standard 8.1) access point (AP) or router designs. The ISL3893 WiSOC eliminates the need for a separate network processor, allowing Intersil to offer Fujitsu Siemens Computers the lowest total bill of materials in the industry for a router design.
The Fujitsu Siemens Computers CONNECT2AIR wireless router and PC card are ideally suited for providing 802.11g connectivity throughout the Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) and home. The CONNECT2AIR wireless router delivers true OFDM-based performance while providing seamless backwards compatibility with 802.11b products, said Peter Esser, executive vice president, Volume Products and Supply Operations of Fujitsu Siemens Computers. Intersils innovative new WiSOC design enables full protection mechanism support that ensures our new CONNECT2AIR wireless router will provide complete co-existence and optimal performance when operating in the presence of legacy 802.11b equipment.
Designed to the 802.11g Draft Standard (7.1), the CONNECT2AIR wireless router and PC card offer customers speeds up to five times faster than currently deployed 802.11b WLAN products. Fujitsu Siemens Computers CONNECT2AIR 802.11g products are fully interoperable with the existing installed base of over 40 million 802.11b systems worldwide. Since both 802.11g and 802.11b standards are built in, the user can protect their investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate network clients to the very fast 802.11g standard.
Intersil believes we have developed the most highly integrated and best performing 802.11g WLAN solution on the market today, said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager of Intersils Wireless Networking Product Group. In addition to our highly integrated BBP/MAC and sophisticated ZIF technology, we have incorporated PRISM Nitro technology, included with the PRISM SingleSource Driver suite, and the WLAN industrys first and most comprehensive WPA security software solution. Intersil is very excited that Fujitsu Siemens Computers has selected our PRISM GT solution for their innovative new wireless router and PC card designs.
Intersils PRISM Nitro technology is a firmware feature that is now part of Intersils SingleSource Driver suite. The PRISM SingleSource Driver is a comprehensive driver package that supports all PRISM® chip set solutions (PRISM 3, PRISM GT and PRISM Duette client and AP solutions). PRISM Nitro is different from other solutions because it is not a proprietary solution and doesnt require a specific combination of clients and access points. PRISM Nitro is designed to work with any 802.11g draft compliant solution, as well as the existing installed base of 802.11b systems.
