Elantec Ships New Laser Driver Designed For Space-Critical Applications To Top DVD PC And Consumer Re-Writable Drive OEMs

MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA, June 16, 1999 - Elantec Semiconductor, Inc. (NASD: ELNT), a leader in high-performance analog ICs, is now shipping the EL6255C, a laser driver designed for space-critical applications in the PC DVD-Rewritable and Consumer Video DVD-Recordable segments of the emerging DVD-Rewritable optical disk drive market. The EL6255C complements the other high performance products in the growing family of Elantec Optical Storage ICs targeted at the rapid growth optical disk storage markets.

Compliant with the DVD-Forum standard, the EL6255C integrates the four current channels required to control the laser power levels with a high frequency modulator (HFM) oscillator and a high speed, high current output driver. This innovative high integration saves board space, reduces component count, and shortens design times, giving OEMs the flexibility to optimize for design performance.

Steve Sacarisen, Elantec's Director of Strategic Marketing, Optical Products Group said, "In response to the industry trend towards smaller form factor drive designs, the EL6255C enables DVD-Rewritable drive OEMs to design the optical pick-up head for minimum space requirements."

Currently, the EL6255C, is available in a 16-pin QSOP package.
