Elantec Semiconductor Announces New Multi-Output DC:DC Regulator For TFT/LCD Flat Panel Displays

The EL7583CR extends Elantec's family of multi-output, integrated FET DC:DC regulators to satisfy the bias voltages on 15 inch-and-smaller TFT/LCD displays

MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA, March 26, 2002 -- Elantec Semiconductor, Inc. (NASDAQ: ELNT), a leader in high-performance analog integrated circuits, today announced their latest multi-output, DC:DC Regulator IC with an integrated FET boost regulator and two regulated charge pumps. The EL7583CR is targeted at 12-to-15 inch TFT/LCD monitors, LCD notebook displays, pocket PCs, and PDAs.

Elantec's EL7583CR, available in a TSSOP20 package, operates over an ambient temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C. The boost regulator provides the main TFT/LCD column driver power, generating +12 V at up to 350mA continuous current from a +5 V input, with a typical 90% efficiency. The boost regulator can provide regulated output voltages ranging from +5 to +18 V. A pair of charge pump control circuits provides regulated outputs for Von and Voff supplies of +5 to +40 V and -40 to -5 V, respectively. These charge pumps are comprised of external stages, which are controlled and regulated by the EL7583CR, allowing the user to conveniently select the desired Von and Voff voltages. The combination of three regulated output voltages, 90% typical efficiency, wide operating voltage range and small TSSOP package provides an excellent power solution for designers of TFT/LCD displays.
