Elantec Introduces New Analog Front-Ends For High-Performance Video Applications

The EL4101C and EL4102C integrate common analog video interface components to support latest video and PC standards

MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA, December 12, 2000 -- Elantec Semiconductor, Inc. (NASDAQ: ELNT), a leader in high-performance analog ICs, today introduced its EL4101C and EL4102C integrated analog video front-ends (VFE) for high-bandwidth video applications.

As the display resolution of projectors and flat panel gets higher, the bandwidth of the analog signal used to transmit these signals continues to increase. With a bandwidth of 500MHz, these new VFEs from Elantec are designed to support XGA through UXGA and QXGA new high-resolution displays. The EL4101C and EL4102C also integrate a number of functions usually sold as separate devices. This high level of integration reduces design complexity and board space requirements, along with the overall solution cost.

The EL4101C integrates a 4:1 multiplexer for input source selection and a DC-restoration circuit, which prepare the input signal for further processing such as analog-to-digital (A-to-D) conversion. The EL4102C adds an 18dB selectable-gain amplifier, programmable via a 3-wire serial interface in 32-step increments. This allows the user to scale the signal before processing or A-to-D conversion to achieve optimal resolution and performance. Both products also exhibit high slew-rates and fast settling times, which are critical for high-bandwidth video processing. The EL4101C and EL4102C also feature a monitor output of the signal selected by the 4:1 multiplexer. Both the monitor output and the main output are capable of driving 75ohm video cables.

Sampling now, both devices are available in the 24-pin QSOP package. Pricing for the EL4101C is $4.45 in 1000-unit quantities, and the EL4102C is priced at $4.95 in similar volume.
