Elantec Introduces Industry's First Triple 4:1 Multiplexing Amplifiers

New 600MHz MUX amps target HDTV and PC-video applications

MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA, August 21, 2001 -- Elantec Semiconductor, Inc. (NASDAQ: ELNT), a leader in high-performance analog ICs, today introduced the industry's first triple 4:1 multiplexing (MUX) amplifiers - the EL4344C and the EL4348C. Targeted at high bandwidth applications, these multiplexing amps are used to select one of four component (RGB or YUV) video inputs.

The EL4344C represents a triple 4:1 MUX with a fixed gain-of-1 and a bandwidth of 600MHz. The EL4348C is also a 4:1 MUX, but features a 500MHz bandwidth and a fixed gain-of-2. Joining the recently released 2:1 triple MUX amplifiers, the EL4342C and EL4346C, these 4:1 multiplexing amplifiers are designed to process the latest standards in HDTV and PC video, including UXGA and QXGA. Operating on +/-5V supplies, these MUX amps feature high slew rates (1200 V/microsecond) and low power consumption, just 12mA per channel.

Michael Jennings, Director of Strategic Marketing for Video and Amplifier products at Elantec said, "These new multiplexers represent the latest in our family of high bandwidth, multiplexing amplifiers. With higher levels of integration than previously available devices, we expect these new MUX amps to be designed-in to a number of high-volume applications, including PC-video products, as well as in professional equipment, such as KVM or instrumentation designs."

Sampling now, the EL4344C and EL4348C come in the 28-pin QSOP package and are priced at $4.25 in 1,000-unit quantities.
