Elantec Introduces Industry's First Programmable Buffer For TFT-LCD Displays
New EL5825C enables advanced functionality in next generation TFT-LCD displays
MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA, October 30, 2001 -- Elantec Semiconductor, Inc. (NASDAQ: ELNT), a leader in high-performance analog ICs, today introduced the industry's first programmable reference generator for gamma voltage generation, targeted at the fast growing LCD display market. By replacing the current buffer topology and resistor ladders, the EL5825C simplifies the development process, provides greater flexibility and customization options, and significantly reduces overall LCD display manufacturing costs.
The EL5825C features 8-reference outputs, each programmable to a 10-bit resolution. Each output is capable of swinging to either rail while maintaining a very robust 30mA continuous output current rating. The EL5825C has an output range of up to 18V, while the input side can operate from 3V to 5V. Programmable via an industry standard 3-wire serial interface, the EL5825C can be controlled by a micro-controller or ASIC in a smart-panel type application, an FPGA, or by adapting the functionality of the existing timing controller.

The EL5825C is available in sample quantities now, with full production in December. It comes packaged in both the 24-pin LPP and the 24-pin TSSOP packages and is priced at just $2.75 in 1,000-unit quantities.
