Elantec Delivers Newest Highly Integrated High Speed Laser Driver IC To Top CD-RW Drive OEMs
The EL6253C enables CD-R/W drive OEM¹s to design higher record and re-write speed optical disk drives.
MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA, April 26, 1999 -- Elantec Semiconductor, Inc. (NASD: ELNT), a leader in high-performance analog ICs, is now shipping the EL6253C. This part enables CD-R/W drive OEM¹s to design higher record and re-write speed optical disk drives. The EL6253C is completely compatible with industry standards for next generation laser driver applications in CD-R, CD-R/W, MO and DVD re-writable optical drive designs. The EL6253C complements the Elantec Optical Storage Family of ICs which are targeted to the rapid growth optical disk storage markets.
The EL6253C integrates the three current channels needed for the read, erase, and write laser drive power levels as well as a high frequency modulator ( HFM ) oscillator and a high speed, high current output driver. This innovative high-integration IC is compliant with the Orange Specification Standard for CD-R and CD-R/W formats. The design reduces board space, component count and design time, and offers the flexibility to optimize design performance.
Steve Sacarisen, Elantec's Director of Strategic Marketing for Optical Products believes the CD-R/W market is experiencing rapid product transition that indicates strong consumer demand for higher record and re-write speeds. Sacarisen said, "The EL6253C enables our CD-R, CD-R/W OEM¹s to design higher performance drives with record speeds of greater than 8X and re-write speeds of greater than 6X . Stronger speed performance features mean OEM's can design products with a longer product life cycle."
The EL6253C offers an optimum price/performance solution to the CD-R/W market segment and is available in the 16 pin QSOP package.
