D-Link Selects Intersil's PRISM GT WLAN Technology for New 802.11g Bridge and USB Products

MILPITAS, CA, August 4, 2003 – Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced that D-Link Systems Inc., a leading manufacturer of networking, data communications and digital electronic technologies, has selected Intersil’s PRISM GT™ high-speed Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN) chip set to provide 802.11g connectivity for D-Link’s new PRISM GT-based AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-124 USB Adapter and DWL-820 Ethernet-to-Wireless Bridge that delivers 54 million bits per second (Mbps) bandwidth capabilities in a 2.4 GHz environment.

"PRISM GT’s high data rate and reliable performance in all types of networking environments enabled us to develop our new DWL-820 and DWL-124 wireless networking products that are optimized for high-data-rate performance in compliance to the IEEE’s 802.11g global standard,” said Steven Joe, President of D-Link. “Moving to higher data rates while remaining fully standards compliant, ensuring full backwards compatibility and interoperability with other standards-compliant brands is one of our key priorities.”

D-Link’s new DWL-124 USB Adapter and DWL-820 Ethernet-to-Wireless Bridge incorporate Intersil’s highly integrated two-chip PRISM GT solution. Since both the 802.11b and 802.11g standards are built in, the user can protect their investment in an existing 802.11b infrastructure while migrating their network to the new 802.11g standard with bandwidth of up to 54 Mbps. The D-Link products will also incorporate Intersil’s SingleSource™ driver suite with PRISM Nitro technology. SingleSource is a complete driver package and PRISM Nitro delivers significant improvement in throughput for 802.11g clients operating in mixed-mode wireless networks and great throughput performance in 802.11g only networks.
