| Intersil display solutions support high-quality video in all
shapes, sizes and environments. Intersil’s innovative
light-to-digital sensors can simplify automatic lighting
systems throughout the entire vehicle. |
High-end vehicle features
such as LCD displays for driver assistance, infotainment
and in-vehicle navigation systems are becoming
widely deployed in cars and trucks of all price ranges.
Intersil has developed industry-leading expertise in the
converters and interface ICs that are essential for the
high-speed links between front-end control units and
displays that serve drivers and rear seat passengers.
Radar, infrared and black-and-white cameras are being used
to sense and monitor conditions around the vehicle, adding
significant new information features. Intersil’s high-speed
communication links send information from sensors to
processors in applications such as rear view and parking
assistance, automatic cruise control braking, lane change
collision avoidance, and low-visibility and night vision
assist systems.
LVDS Technology
Intersil’s LVDS technology reduces cabling by
serializing and deserializing (SERDES) parallel signals to
one high-speed LVDS signal. LVDS technology can be used
anywhere there is a need for transporting high-speed digital
data from multiple ports to a host for processing or
display. A cost-effective electrical link is a good
alternative to optical links in most vehicles, and is used
for routing video signals for navigation and entertainment.
Intersil’s LVDS ICs will include:
- 19:1 Transceivers with 6MHz to 35MHz pixel clock
rate
- 27:1 Transceivers with 6MHz to 45MHz pixel clock
rate
- 19:1 Transmitter and 1:19 Receiver with 6MHz to
35MHz pixel clock rate
- 27:1 Transmitter and 1:27 Receiver with 6MHz to
45MHz pixel clock rate
- 35:1 Transmitter and 1:35 Receiver with 20MHz to
35MHz pixel clock rate

The products developed by
Intersil, for example, provide the high pixel rates required
to support crystal-clear LCD displays throughout a vehicle.
They include pre-emphasis/receive equalization to drive
longer cables and more connectors, and they feature AC
coupling with robust 8b/10b coding, and are slew rate
adjustable. These devices support spread spectrum clocking
to reduce EMI, have bi-directional communication for a
user-controllable interface, and enable a cost-effective
cable and connector solution.
Sensor Expertise and Packaging Leadership
It makes perfect sense that Intersil would have the primary
leadership position in most sensors for the automotive
market. Sensors, after all, do nothing more than sense the
real world, analog conditions that confront a vehicle.
Intersil brings expertise in sensor technology for a variety
of emerging products for vehicle applications such as rain
sensors, carbon dioxide sensors, and seat detection.
Relevant product families include DCPs (digitally controlled
potentiometers) for gain-adjustment of the amplifier;
digital control for automatic adjustment; precision op amps
for amplifying small sensor signals; instrumentation op amps
for measuring temperature, weight and gas for sensors in
bridge configuration; voltage references for very precise
temperature compensation; and light sensors for detecting
changes in ambient light.
Broad Portfolio of Automotive Analog ICs
Intersil can
provide products for emerging vehicle infotainment and
driver assistance applications, including the following:
- Analog functions in automotive video distribution
- Power management, backlighting and light sensors in
displays
- LCDs in heads up displays
- Power management and analog front ends in cluster
displays
- Battery management in hybrid cars
- Electronic steering and adaptive cruise control to
assist driving
- Fan drivers, seat detection, windows/sun roof opener
for body electronics
- LED car lighting
Commitment to Quality and Processes
Automotive customers expect ZERO product defects and ZERO
incidents for logistical and administrative errors. Intersil
understands these requirements and has a proven
track record in meeting those demands with military and
space products. In fact, Intersil's ICs were aboard the Voyager
space craft as it left the heliosphere, making Intersil
semiconductors one of the only man-made objects proven to
operate outside of the solar system. That’s reliability.
Intersil has nearly completed its ISO/TS 16949 certification process. In addition, many of Intersil’s
subcontractors are already TS 16949 certified. So whether
you require extended temperature range, AEC Q-100 or full TS
16949 compliance, Intersil has a growing portfolio of
products to meet your needs. |
